In 2006, 2.2 million Ohio voters approved the Smoke Free Workplace Act, protecting all workers and the public from the health hazards associated with exposure to secondhand smoke. Medical studies have conclusively shown that exposure to secondhand smoke causes illness and disease, including lung cancer, heart disease, and respiratory illness. Therefore, voters have enacted a statewide standard that levels the playing field for all businesses and offers equal protection for all workers and customers from secondhand smoke.

On June 10, 2008, members of the Ohio Senate introduced Senate Bill 346. This legislation would dismantle the protections for Ohio’s workers and families and overturn the vote of Ohioans. This bill would allow smoking in most restaurants, bars, bowling alleys, and workplaces.
